Double the Impact: TruBank Partners with Two Organizations to Benefit Youth This Summer

TruBank amplified its community outreach by connecting two nonprofit customers, the Indianola Community Youth Foundation (ICYF) and the Des Moines Metro Disc Golf Club (DMMDGC), to provide engaging summer activities for local youth. This collaboration offered back-to-back opportunities for kids to play disc golf and learn essential financial literacy skills.

ICYF Executive Director Taylor Litchkey organized 10 weekly Lunch and Learn programs for kids in Indianola, Iowa, each focusing on a different topic. “I really wanted the kids to be able to interact and have fun. It’s summer after all!” explained Taylor. TruBank has strong ties with ICYF, with board member Casey Blake having founded ICYF and TruBank President Clint Welling serving on its board. TruBank employees frequently volunteer at ICYF events, strengthening this partnership.

During an ICYF event, Taylor shared her summer Lunch and Learn plan with TruBank CFO Ben Currie. He not only agreed for TruBank to host a session on financial literacy but also introduced Taylor to DMMDGC, aligning their shared interest in helping kids learn and stay active in sports - particularly disc golf.

The DMMDGC organizes and hosts the TruBank Des Moines Challenge, a professional disc golf tournament at Pickard Park in Indianola, attracting over 140 professional players. Club President Amanda Beery and Tournament Director Ty Tannatt hosted a Lunch and Learn during tournament. Top 10 world-ranked disc golfer Holyn Handley taught 40+ kids how to throw and putt discs, with each child receiving a complimentary disc from TruBank and enjoying lunch outdoors.

The following week, TruBank hosted its financial literacy Lunch and Learn in its community room, where CFO Ben Currie read a story about saving money, and kids painted their own piggy banks to start their savings journey. Whip It Good catering provided a delicious lunch of walking tacos, and TruBank capped the event with treats from its soft-serve ice cream machine.

TruBank’s community involvement goes beyond banking, focusing on connecting individuals and groups to create meaningful interactions. This summer initiative is just one example of TruBank’s dedication to supporting its communities in central Iowa.
